Seek Outdoor's Fortress is a multi-functional, durable, ultra-light load truck, manufactured in the United States, dedicated to protecting the environment.

Is a backpack that focuses on hunting really necessary? I have spent many years hunting and packing animals with my Osprey backpack in northwest Wyoming, but have always been interested in Seek Outdoor’s separate hunting bag.

Well, after a busy September, it is safe to say that Osprey will enter a well-deserved retirement life.

Hello, ask outside the 4800 Fortress! During the successful archery elk and rifle deer hunting in remote areas of Wyoming, this versatile, durable and ultra-light loader definitely broke my expectations.

There are now a variety of hunting special packages to consider. This means that personal preference can determine the "best packaging" that suits you best.

For me, Seek Outside Fortress 4800 ($525) rose to the top of the list for the following reasons.

The versatility of the fortress may be its primary feature. Although other backpacks are more rigorous in design, Seek Outdoor deliberately makes its backpacks customizable to meet your specific needs.

I particularly like how the pocket system of the backpack sets it up for different areas of use.

The belt pocket allows you to easily take out snacks, headlights, inReach/GPS, hats/gloves and other common items with one hand. The oversized water bottle bag on the side of the backpack is also suitable for holding binoculars, tripods, trekking poles or horn tubes.

I also use one to store the wet tent and separate it from the dry gear in the backpack. The pockets have elastic straps that allow you to quickly store small loose items, such as trash you find on the road.

A key component of the Seek Outdoor backpack system is the Talon or Merlin, which are small external pockets fixed to the back of the backpack to provide compression and additional storage space. You can choose your favorite Talon as part of the 4800 system, there are a total of six options.

Talon adds approximately 800 cubic inches of storage space and also adds compression to the main packaging bag. Merlin does the same thing, but is bigger (1,400 cubic inches, three zipper pockets, it has backpack straps and can also be used as a standalone daily backpack. Important items such as water filters, extra layers and food of the day Very suitable for Merlin, which is my favorite.

Finally, a 4,800 cubic inch backpack can hold your camp gear, killing kits, and other items you might use once or twice a day. It can also be detached from the external frame, which is an important function for towing loads or attaching Merlin to smaller backpacks for day hunting.

The multifunctional design of Fortress really shines when moving goods. Thanks to the carabiner function, the janitor's shoulder strap is completely detachable and can be moved to multiple attachment points, making it easy to fix awkward loads and your rifle or bow.

My backpack contains everything from a small rolled raft to a water bottle to a dry bag full of extra equipment. I haven't tried it yet, but I can see that it has been modified to comfortably carry children while hiking.

Like many other hunting bags, this bag is designed to break away from the frame to ensure that the weight is close to your body for more efficient hauling. It can also be removed and left on site (it is waterproof) or on your truck, Talon/Merlin acts as a compressor to fix the next load.

One major difference between the Seek Outdoor Fortress and my old Osprey backpack is that the Fortress is over-built to carry more weight than humans can withstand.

The strong and flexible frame outlines the outline and moves with your body to keep your weight close. The weightlifter (adjustable height) concentrates the weight on the hips and shoulders. In addition, a large number of goalkeeper compression straps and attachment points can fix the load and reduce fatigue.

The customizable nature of the backpack means that you can adjust the height of the backpack between the waist belt and the shoulder strap to make it fit your body perfectly. The waistband is available in many different sizes to suit different body types. Its double shoulder strap design allows the belt to fit your waist.

Despite all these design factors, Fortress is still very light, weighing less than 4 pounds. This is more than 1.5 pounds lighter than my previous bag.

Hunting bags need to be made of durable and repairable materials.

Fortress’ sturdy Xpac fabric is hard-wearing and waterproof, which means you don’t need to carry a rain cover. Despite some annoying early snowstorms, there is no moisture problem in my main backpack, and I look forward to trying it as an ultra-light dry backpack for rafting in the future.

Look for a replacement buckle with the outer packaging, just in case. If the Xpac fabric is damaged in the field, it can also be easily repaired with tape or strong tape.

Seek Outdoor’s diligent team makes backpacks and tents by hand in Grand Junction, Colorado. Its responsive and knowledgeable staff are very helpful in answering questions and repair/service questions. I appreciate the ability to talk to people who really understand the product they are talking about.

As a small company, Seek Outdoor has also been a long-term supporter of protection. They are 2% members of conservation organizations and actively support hunters and anglers in remote areas and other conservation organizations.

I can't see the many shortcomings of looking outside the fort. Almost everything in this small company is handmade, which means that the delivery time of the product can sometimes be extended to several months, so be sure to place an order in advance.

Its quality equipment is also more expensive, but you get what you pay for. In my opinion, it is very worthwhile.

I would say that the Fortress package is not super intuitive. After the package arrives, it takes time to install it correctly and understand how it works best before entering the site.

Seek Outdoor has a virtual learning library on its website to help solve this problem. In addition, its customer service team is very helpful with problems.

In the final analysis, these shortcomings are not real shortcomings at all. It just takes some time to get the package. Then there is more time to learn your new system.

After packing more than a dozen animals with a backpack, the Seek Outdoor Fortress for hunting is a very good upgrade.

This versatile, durable, ultra-light load pallet truck will definitely become a year-round backpack and will play a role in the next few years.
